Anti-Trafficking Activist Sunita Danuwar dies aged 47

Anti-human trafficking activist Sunita Danuwar has passed away. According to her family, she was found dead in her bed this morning at her residence in Jorpati.

Her husband discovered her unconscious when he tried to wake her up. She was rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared her dead. The cause of her death is yet to be determined.

Sunita was the founding president of Shakti Samuha, an organization led by women affected by human trafficking.

She was recognized by Fortune magazine as one of the world’s 50 greatest leaders and was honored by the U.S. Department of State as a “TIP Hero” in 2018.
