Haílton Corrêa de Arruda, known as Manga, passed away at the age of 87 after a battle with prostate cancer. The legendary goalkeeper, who represented Brazil in the 1966 World Cup and had a decorated club career, died at Rio Barra hospital.

A Stellar Career

Manga is remembered for his remarkable career with Botafogo, where he won four Carioca titles between 1961 and 1968. He later achieved success with Internacional, securing three Gaucho tournament titles from 1974 to 1976. Manga’s time with the Brazil national team included 12 matches, one of which was at the 1966 World Cup.

Additionally, Haílton Corrêa de Arruda played for Uruguay’s Nacional, contributing to their four consecutive league titles from 1969 to 1972, as well as a Copa Libertadores win in 1971 and an Intercontinental Cup victory.
