A 72-year-old woman has lost her life in a tiger attack in Manahari Rural Municipality, located in the western region of Makawanpur.
According to the District Police Office Makawanpur, the victim, Kanchhimaya Rumba, wife of Dhan Bahadur Rumba, was attacked by a tiger in Basantpur Gumbatol, Manahari-5.
It is reported that the tiger attacked Rumba around 5 PM on Sunday near a stream close to her home. The village of Basantpur is in shock.
Rumba had gone to the field near her house to cut grass and failed to return by late evening, prompting a search. Her relatives found her about 500 meters east of her home, in a state of death with injuries to her body, as reported by Police Inspector Thakur Prasad Sapkota.
The police were informed about the incident around 10 PM, and Sapkota, who was dispatched to the scene for investigation, provided this information.
Four months ago in Manahari, a tiger was killed by a buffalo. On 5th Bhadra, a buffalo that was tied up at the cattle shed of Balbahadur Rai in Manahari-6, Pratapur, attacked a tiger, and in the process, the buffalo fought back, causing the tiger’s death, as per the police report and a technical team from Chitwan National Park.
The park stated that the tiger, old and injured, had been killed by the buffalo’s attack.
Since Manahari is connected to the central forest area of Chitwan National Park, the region has been frequently impacted by wild animal attacks, causing loss of life and property every year.
Locals have been demanding the installation of fences around settlements to reduce the risk of wild animal attacks, but the government has not paid attention to their requests. In the western area of Manahari, elephants have also caused damage multiple times.
Manahari Rural Municipality, located on the border with Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City, is also connected to the eastern Parsa National Park. Wild animals from Parsa National Park have caused terror in wards 1 to 4 of Manahari and wards 12, 13, and 14 of Hetauda.
