On June 19, Mr. K, the former manager of late actress Kim Sae Ron, lodged a defamation complaint against YouTuber Kwon Young Chan with Seoul’s Seocho Police Station. The suit alleges that Kwon Young Chan’s videos on his YouTube channel, Kwon Young-chan TV, contained false information that damaged Mr. K’s reputation over a period of three months, violating the Information and Communications Network Act.
Mr. K claims that Kwon Young Chan’s content included defamatory accusations linking him to embezzlement of hospital bills and inappropriate grooming of Kim Sae Ron. He strongly denied these allegations, explaining that all emergency medical expenses were covered by corporate and company cards, and there was no private or illegal involvement. The former manager also accused Kwon Young Chan of invading his privacy by revealing his identity in connection with the Kim Soo Hyun–Kim Sae Ron dating controversy.
In response, Kwon Young Chan had previously filed a report against Mr. K for alleged violations of medical and personal information laws.
Mr. K emphasized the close, fatherly relationship he shared with Kim Sae Ron, stating that the actress trusted him deeply and affectionately referred to him as “dad.” He highlighted his financial support for her during difficult times and efforts to revive her career. Describing Kim Sae Ron’s death as “deeply shocking,” Mr. K expressed further distress over what he called “inhumane false claims” made by Kwon Young Chan, which he said severely harmed his reputation before he had a chance to properly grieve the loss.
The legal proceedings are ongoing as both parties continue to dispute the allegations.
