Maoist Centre Assigns Former Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun New Role in Party

The CPN (Maoist Centre) has decided to assign former Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun Pasang a defined responsibility within the party. In a meeting held on Monday, the leadership decided to make Pasang the head of a new mechanism overseeing the production sector.

“According to his request, a mechanism has been formed to oversee the production sector, and he has been given the responsibility to lead it,” said a leader.

Former Vice President Pun had already started participating in the Maoist Centre’s meetings. He was also seated among the leadership in the Central Committee meeting held in the last week of December.

“He was to receive a leadership position, but the decision had not been made earlier. This time, we have assigned him the declared responsibility,” the leader added. “Other decisions will follow gradually.”

Pun, one of the top leaders of the Maoist Centre, served two terms as the Vice President. After the constitution was promulgated in 2015, Bidya Devi Bhandari became President, and Pun became Vice President.

After completing two terms, both Bhandari and Pun had signaled their return to active politics.
