Maoist Leader Demands Transparent Discussion on NEA Profit-Loss Case

Maoist Centre lawmaker Madhav Sapkota has demanded a clear and open discussion about the financial profit-loss controversy of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA). He wants all three concerned parties—former NEA MD Kulman Ghising, current MD H.D. Shakya, and the Office of the Auditor General—to be called for questioning.

Speaking at a parliamentary infrastructure committee meeting, Sapkota pointed out that two different audit systems were used—one during Ghising’s time and another after Shakya took over. He claimed this inconsistency needs clarification.

He questioned why such different systems were used and said the issue cannot be ignored. Sapkota urged the committee to bring in the Energy Minister, NEA officials, and if needed, the Auditor General for a detailed discussion.

He also warned against turning the issue into a political fight between the ruling and opposition parties. Instead, he called for a fact-based discussion to ensure full transparency.

“If Kulman Ghising is found guilty, he should face legal action under Nepali law. We cannot protect anyone wrongfully just because they did good in the past,” Sapkota stated.

He emphasized that both the good and the bad must be addressed honestly and fairly, without delay or political bias.
