A mother and her step-husband have been arrested by the police for killing her own 9-year-old son and burying the body underground.
According to the Area Police Office in Kohalpur, Yasodha Budha and her second husband, Niraknath Yogi, who were living on rent in Kohalpur Municipality-11, Hariyali Marg, together killed Yasodha’s 9-year-old son, Kushal Budha, and buried his body. Both of them have now been arrested.
Acting Chief of Kohalpur Area Police, Resamlal Paudel, said that during the investigation, the child’s body was found buried underground. It was found that the stepfather, Niraknath Yogi, and the biological mother, Yasodha Budha, had together killed the child and buried the body, so they were arrested and charged with murder.
He also said that the boy’s grandparents filed a complaint stating that Niraknath Yogi and Yasodha Budha had killed the child and buried the body to hide the crime.
Both had informed the police on the 8th of Baisakh (Nepali calendar) that the child had gone missing, but they showed no interest in searching for him. This raised suspicion, and after investigation, it was found that they were responsible for the crime.
The police have presented both of them before the Banke District Court and received a five-day extension for further investigation, according to Acting Chief Paudel.
The body of 9-year-old Kushal Budha, who was studying in grade 3 at Kohalpur school, was found buried in the ground on Monday evening in Baijanath Rural Municipality-4, Naulapur, Banke.
According to police, elderly people from the village who had gone to graze cattle noticed a foul smell and saw a child’s foot sticking out from the ground. They informed local representatives, who then contacted the police. The police later recovered the body.
The child’s father had already passed away, and his mother had remarried Niraknath Yogi from Dullu Municipality-10. Kushal was living with them in Kohalpur.
