Marvel fans, get ready for more magic in the MCU. A surprise reveal hints that Joe Locke, who played Wiccan in Agatha All Along, could be making his big-screen return in Avengers: Doomsday — even though Marvel hasn’t officially confirmed it yet.
Marvel’s next big event is heating up
Slated for a 2026 release, Avengers Doomsday is shaping up to be the biggest cinematic event of the year. Sharing its release date with Dune: Messiah and coming ahead of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the Avengers film is expected to dominate both headlines and the box office.
With Marvel Studios preparing for the grand conclusion of the Multiverse Saga, excitement is only growing. Although a full cast list was released earlier, it seems the studio may still have a few surprises up its sleeve.
Joe Locke might be filming a Marvel movie
The speculation about Locke’s return began when acclaimed stage writer Steven Sater casually dropped a clue during a TikTok live session. When talking about British actor Joe Locke, he mentioned, “I know he’s doing a Marvel movie and he’s doing Heartstopper, so he’s been crazy busy.” That offhand comment has sparked major buzz.
Locke is currently working on the Heartstopper Netflix movie, which will wrap up the beloved series. But the only Marvel movie known to be in production at the moment is Avengers: Doomsday — and Locke isn’t officially listed in the cast. Could this mean he’s set for a surprise appearance?
Wiccan’s story could continue from Agatha All Along
In Agatha All Along, Locke played Billy Maximoff (also known as William Kaplan or Wiccan), who became a full-fledged magic-user in the show’s penultimate episode. He helped Agatha Harkness fight Death, and after her sacrifice, the ghostly Agatha joined Billy in a mission to find his brother, Tommy.
While that storyline is expected to carry over into Vision Quest, another Disney+ series, fans are wondering if Locke’s “Marvel movie” could indeed be Avengers: Doomsday — or both.
Leaks and contracts hint at Wiccan’s return
Earlier this year, leaked concept art for Avengers: Doomsday appeared online, showing Wiccan alongside the Young Avengers. Although the Russo Brothers denied it was part of their specific vision, fans haven’t stopped speculating.
Locke himself recently joked about how tightly Marvel contracts are tied, saying he had “signed for [his] whole life.” That makes his return to the MCU a matter of “when,” not “if.”
Could Young Avengers debut in Doomsday?
With the Young Avengers rumored to be in development for Disney+, Avengers: Doomsday could act as a perfect introduction for the team. It could also set the stage for Avengers: Secret Wars, giving fans a glimpse of the next generation of heroes.
