Actor Nushrratt Bharuccha found herself in the midst of online criticism after a video from the 11th International Day of Yoga event in Mumbai went viral. The clip, circulating on social media, shows Nushrratt asking a female volunteer to untie her shoelaces — a move that has not sat well with netizens.
The Incident at the Event
Dressed in a light pink top layered under a cream shrug paired with matching pants, Nushrratt attended the yoga event in Mumbai alongside other participants. In a now widely shared video, the actor is seen interacting with a group of women volunteers. One of them bends down to untie her shoelace. Midway through, Nushrratt shifts slightly and gestures toward her other foot, signaling the woman to remove that shoe as well.
Internet Users React Strongly
The video immediately triggered backlash online, with many accusing the actor of being “disrespectful” and “entitled.” One Instagram user sarcastically questioned, “Doesn’t she have hands?” while another wrote, “She came to do yoga but can’t even bend to take off her own shoes?”
Some critics were even harsher: “Is she a child? Why does she need two people to remove her shoes?” Another comment read, “Paisa aur fame sar chad gaya hai. She wants to do yoga but needs helpers for her laces. Might as well let them do the yoga too.”
Many users pointed out the contradiction between promoting physical fitness through yoga and relying on others for basic tasks. “If you’re that fit, taking off your own shoes shouldn’t be a problem,” one person noted.
Nushrratt’s Statement on Yoga
Despite the controversy, Nushrratt spoke positively about yoga during the event. In a statement to news agency ANI, she said, “Yoga is very energising. If it becomes part of your daily routine, it can truly benefit your mind, body, and soul.”
On the Work Front
Professionally, Nushrratt was last seen in the horror-thriller Chhorii 2, directed by Vishal Furia. The film, which premiered globally on April 11, stars Gashmeer Mahajani, Saurabh Goyal, Pallavi Ajay, Kuldeep Sareen, and Hardika Sharma alongside her. Chhorii 2 was released under the banners of T-Series, Abundantia Entertainment, Psych, and Tamarisk Lane Productions.
While Nushrratt’s intentions at the yoga event may have been genuine, her recent viral moment serves as a reminder of how quickly public perception can shift — especially in the age of social media.
