Catherine O’Hara, the beloved Hollywood star known for her role as Moira Rose in Schitt’s Creek, recently shared that she rescued several iconic costumes from the devastating LA wildfires, feeling incredibly fortunate not to lose her home.
The 70-year-old actress told Us Weekly about her experience, recalling the evacuation that took place two weeks ago. “I grabbed a lot of my costumes when I was evacuated. I took these Givenchy boots and this incredible short dress with large, round silver sequins from the ‘Housewarming’ episode in Season 5,” she revealed.
O’Hara went on to explain that while she was offered many wigs, she only took one: “I decided to bring the Vivien wig, which was from my soap opera character. I didn’t have the setup to take care of them properly, so that was the only one I brought.”
While the Home Alone star’s house was spared from the wildfires, she humbly acknowledged that it was all thanks to “luck” and expressed a desire to help those who weren’t as fortunate. “It didn’t feel right praying for my home to be saved,” O’Hara admitted. “We were really lucky, and the least you can do is try to find ways to help others.”
O’Hara, who experienced a career resurgence with Schitt’s Creek, also discussed how much she enjoyed contributing to her character’s wardrobe. “It was so much fun working with people who allowed me to create such an unpredictable, quirky character,” she said. “Moira’s wardrobe was part of what made the role so enjoyable. It opened doors for all of us.”
Best known for her work on Second City Television and Schitt’s Creek, O’Hara’s legendary film credits include Beetlejuice, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Home Alone (along with its sequel Home Alone 2: Lost in New York).
