One person has been found dead after falling into the Bheri River during the construction of a suspension bridge in Surkhet.
Two workers were reported missing after falling into the river at around 1:30 PM on Wednesday while pulling a cable.
The missing person, identified as 24-year-old Anil Gharti from Sisne Municipality-2, Rukum East, was discovered dead on Thursday afternoon, according to SSP Shiva Kumar Shrestha of Karnali Province Police.
“His body was found at 2:20 PM, approximately 100 meters downstream from the site of the bridge construction,” SSP Shrestha said. “Search operations for the other missing person are still underway.”
The second missing person, 18-year-old Arjun Gharti Magar from the same municipality, is still unaccounted for.
Currently, teams from the Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force are continuing the search efforts.
The suspension bridge is being built over the Bheri River to connect Barahatal Rural Municipality-4 and Panchapuri Municipality-14 in Surkhet. The two workers went missing while working on this project on Wednesday afternoon.
The authorities are working diligently to locate the missing person while ensuring safety at the construction site.
