Phanidev Mahat, a journalist from Chandrapur-4 who had been active in journalism for over two decades, passed away on Tuesday night due to a brain tumor.
Last year, Mahat underwent brain tumor surgery at Annapurna Neuro Hospital in Kathmandu. After that, he continued treatment in New Delhi, India.
He served as the Rautahat correspondent for Annapurna Post, ran Radio Supreme, and was the founder of KalamPati.com. He was also the former president of Press Chautari Madhesh Province.
The 48-year-old, known for his friendly nature, had suddenly lost consciousness due to severe headaches, leading to his surgery in Kathmandu. In Delhi, he received CyberKnife treatment for his condition.
In the past month, he had been receiving care at Patan Hospital and Annapurna Neuro Hospital. After his death, his body was brought to his home district Rautahat on Wednesday morning.
Nirmala Sharma, President of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, said the entire organization is deeply shocked by his death. His final rites will be held today.
