According to meteorologists, a western wind system coupled with a low-pressure system is expected to bring cloudy weather, rain, and snowfall to Nepal over the next two days. This weather condition, which will begin in the Sudurpaschim region on Friday afternoon, is likely to improve from Sunday onward gradually. The Kathmandu Valley is also expected to experience light rain during this period.
Senior meteorologist Meen Kumar Aryal stated that light rainfall will begin in some parts of Sudurpaschim and Karnali provinces this afternoon. Higher hills and mountainous areas in these provinces may see snowfall. By Friday night, parts of Sudurpaschim, Karnali, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces will receive light rain.
The weather system will gradually move eastward, impacting the Kathmandu Valley as well. While no rain is expected in Kathmandu today, cloudy skies are predicted at night, with light rain likely on Saturday.
“Tomorrow, Saturday, the entire country will experience general cloudiness. Many parts of Sudurpaschim and Karnali provinces and some hilly areas of Koshi Province are likely to receive light to moderate rain. In other provinces, only a few areas will see light rain,” Aryal explained. “In Kathmandu, there is a chance of light rain tomorrow.”
Light rain is classified as rainfall below 10 millimeters, while moderate rain measures between 10 and 50 millimeters.
Conditions are expected to improve gradually starting Sunday, with only isolated rainfall expected. On Sunday, hilly regions are likely to see partial to general cloud cover, with most of the weather activity concentrated in the western regions. Sudurpaschim and Karnali provinces might experience light rain in some hilly areas, but other regions are unlikely to see significant rainfall.
This weather system will also lead to a drop in temperatures, increasing the cold across the country. Meteorologists have advised the public to take precautions against the cold. On Friday morning, Kathmandu’s minimum temperature was recorded at 4°C, with forecasts suggesting further drops in the coming days.
