A passenger bus traveling from Surkhet to the Mahakumbh event met with an accident in Babai, leaving 35 people injured. The incident took place on Sunday evening at Sano Khola in Bheri Municipality-5.
According to the District Police Office in Surkhet, six of the injured passengers sustained serious injuries. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Birendra Bishwakarma stated that the accident involved a bus with registration number Bhe 1 Kha 4331, which was carrying 41 pilgrims.
“All passengers survived the crash, but six individuals are critically injured,” DSP Bishwakarma informed, adding that further details about the incident are still being gathered.
Authorities have confirmed that the injured passengers were immediately taken to Kohalpur Hospital in Banke for medical treatment. The bus was en route to Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, India, where the grand Kumbh Mela is currently taking place at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers.
Rescue operations were swiftly launched following the accident. As per police reports, the bus lost control and plunged about 7 to 8 meters down near a road bridge. Further investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the accident.
