Pathibhara Cable Car Dispute

The Koshi provincial government’s negotiation team has invited identity activists for talks. In a meeting on Tuesday, the team urged the protesting groups to come forward for discussions.

On Saturday, a clash broke out between identity activists and the police near the Pathibhara area in Taplejung over opposition to the cable car project. During the clash, police opened fire, seriously injuring three people, including two with gunshot wounds. They are currently receiving treatment at a teaching hospital in Kathmandu. Additionally, 21 police officers were injured in the incident.

As the cable car construction in Pathibhara progresses, some groups have expressed dissatisfaction. In response, the provincial government has reaffirmed its commitment to resolving the issue through talks. Minister for Internal Affairs and Law, Rewati Raman Bhandari, called on the opposing groups to participate in discussions.

Earlier, on Mangsir 24, the provincial government formed a negotiation team led by the Minister for Economic Affairs and Planning, Ram Bahadur Rana. The team includes the Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Health, Bhupendra Rai, Minister for Internal Affairs and Law, Rewati Raman Bhandari, and Secretary of the Internal Affairs and Law Ministry, Kamal Thapa.
