The British royal couple, Prince Edward and his wife Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, who are in Nepal for an informal visit, met with President Ram Chandra Paudel.
The couple arrived in Kathmandu on Tuesday and visited Sheetal Niwas in the afternoon to have a discussion with President Paudel.
During the meeting, President Paudel highlighted that climate change is a major global concern today, and it is essential for everyone to work together to address this issue. Quoting President Paudel, his press advisor Kiran Pokharel mentioned, “Climate change has become a major concern of the world today, and Nepal, being directly impacted by climate change, has been raising its voice about mountain conservation at various international platforms.” The President also expressed confidence that positive discussions are ongoing regarding the “Bilateral Mechanism” established to address some legitimate concerns of former British Gurkhas.
President Paudel mentioned that Nepal is about to initiate the Sagarmatha Dialogue.
During the meeting, Prince Edward expressed his belief that during the visit, they would gain insights into the impact of climate change in Nepal and the efforts the country is making to mitigate it.
