A quiet night turned tragic in Kalikot as a devastating tractor accident claimed the lives of four individuals, shaking the community and drawing heartfelt reactions on social media.
According to the District Police Office, a tractor transporting food grains and essential goods from Thirpu (Palanta-9) to Chhalta (Palanta-4) met with a fatal accident near Budadanda in Palanta-2. The tractor, which had no visible number plate, veered off the road and plunged into a steep hillside late last night.
Among the deceased are:
- Chandra Prakash Rokaya (25), the tractor driver from Khadyaad-5, Mugu
- Ravindra BK (21) of Palanta-4, Kalikot
- Sadu Budha (32), also from Palanta-4
- Amba Shahi, aged around 25-26, from Salkikot, Palanta-5
All four died on the spot, confirmed Tek Bahadur Rawat, chief of the district police. The accident site presented a grim picture, with the tractor lodged deep in a rugged slope and the bodies found nearly 200 meters below the road.
The heartbreaking news quickly spread across social media platforms, with many users expressing condolences and frustration over the recurring road safety issues in Nepal’s hilly regions. Some called for stricter vehicle inspections and better road maintenance in rural areas.
