Train Accident in India: Death Toll Reaches 13, Four Nepalis Identified

The death toll from a train accident in Maharashtra, India, has reached 13. According to Indian media reports, four of the deceased were Nepali citizens.

The incident occurred on Wednesday when a panic broke out on the Pushpak Express train due to rumors of a fire. As passengers rushed to evacuate, the Karnataka Express train, coming from the opposite direction, collided with them, leading to fatalities. Among the 13 victims, the identities of seven individuals have been confirmed.

The Nepali citizens who lost their lives in the accident have been identified as Lachhiram Paasi, Imtiaz Ali, Babu Khan, and Himu Bishwakarma, as reported by Indian media.

Officials stated that the panic started when a passenger pulled the emergency chain, commonly used to stop the train in emergencies, following the fire rumor. Once the train stopped, passengers disembarked and ran toward another track, unaware of the Karnataka Express train approaching from the opposite direction, which struck them.

The site of the accident reportedly had a curve, which prevented passengers from seeing the approaching train, resulting in the tragic loss of life.
