Former Chief Secretary Damodar Gautam has passed away. He died this morning while undergoing treatment at Medicity Hospital. The 87-year-old was admitted due to liver problems.
Gautam served as Chief Secretary from 2047 to 2049 BS. He started his career as a government officer and later became Nepal’s ambassador to the United States.
He lived in Lagankhel, Lalitpur, and played a key role in drafting the Kathmandu University Act. After retirement, he taught as a visiting professor at KU for two years.
According to family sources, his final rites were performed today at Pashupati Aryaghat.
