Pavita Died Without Regaining Consciousness After Surgery

A young woman from Sarlahi, Pavita Yadav, passed away this morning at 7 AM in Kathmandu’s KMC Hospital. She had been unconscious for the last four and a half months following a gallbladder surgery.

On January 16 (Magh 3), Pavita underwent surgery at an unregistered clinic named Muskan Hospital in Janakpur-14, Pidari Chowk. Since then, she never woke up. After a few days of treatment in Janakpur, her family brought her to KMC Hospital in Kathmandu for better care about three and a half months ago.

She had been on a ventilator until her final breath. A police officer on duty at the hospital, Bednath Paudel, confirmed her death and said the hospital has preserved the body while coordinating with the family for the next steps.

Due to financial hardship, her husband Angesh had returned home and could not afford to stay in Kathmandu or cover medical expenses. There had been no one attending her at the hospital for the past month.

The hospital had made multiple calls to Angesh, urging him to come. When he didn’t respond, the hospital even contacted Sarlahi District Police to trace him. The local Haripurwa police station eventually informed him.

“I got a call from the police this morning asking me to come and collect the body,” said Angesh. “I don’t even have the fare to reach Kathmandu, let alone money to pay the hospital or bring her body back.”
