Police Open Fire During Drug Bust in Nawalparasi, One Injured

A man was injured after police opened fire in West Nawalparasi, citing obstruction during a drug control operation. The injured has been identified as 52-year-old Rajesh Loniya, a resident of Ward No. 12, Pachgaon, Ramgram Municipality.

Based on information that drugs were being sold and distributed from Loniya’s house, a team from the Bhairahawa branch of the Narcotics Control Bureau was deployed on Thursday evening around 8 PM. According to the police, when they attempted to take him into custody, Loniya suddenly attacked them, prompting them to open fire.

Police spokesperson Resham Bohara stated that Loniya tried to snatch a pistol from the officers, and as another individual involved in the drug trade attempted to escape, the police fired four rounds. One bullet hit Rajesh Loniya’s left thigh.

Loniya was taken to Parasi District Hospital in a police vehicle for treatment. His condition is moderate, and he is able to speak. Meanwhile, another person involved in the drug trade managed to escape, according to the police.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Bohara stated that 93 packets of a powdery substance resembling brown sugar were recovered from the scene.
