Prime Minister Launches HPV Vaccine Campaign to Combat Cervical Cancer on World Cancer Day

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has launched a campaign for the HPV vaccine for girls on the occasion of World Cancer Day to prevent cervical cancer. The campaign was launched today at a program held at Shivpuri Higher Secondary School in Baluwatar, where vaccines were provided to health workers from Kathmandu Metropolitan City-3. The vaccination campaign will run from today until Falgun 6 (February 19), targeting girls aged 10 to 14 years, including those in grades 6 to 10 in schools, as well as out-of-school adolescents. A total of 16,88,900 girls will be vaccinated across the country. According to the Ministry of Health and Population, every day, four women die from cervical cancer in the country. Cervical cancer is caused by an infection from the human papillomavirus (HPV). Among the various types of cancer in women in Nepal, cervical cancer ranks second.
