Damage Crops in Sunsari

Last night’s strong winds and rain have caused heavy damage to maize and mango farms in Sunsari.

According to Nil Kamal Singh, head of the Agriculture Knowledge Center in Inaruwa, crops in areas like Inaruwa, Devangunj, Bhokraha, Barahkshetra, and Harinagar have been badly affected.

Maize farming is widely done across the district, and the crops were ready for harvest. Singh said that the rain and strong winds damaged the maize plants, causing the flowers and fruits to fall, leading to major losses.

Similarly, mango farms were also damaged. Singh said that the rain, wind, and lightning struck when the mangoes were still young, harming the fruits.

Vegetable crops like bottle gourd, cucumber, bitter gourd, pointed gourd, and beans have also been affected, according to the Agriculture Knowledge Center.

Singh added that they are currently collecting data to assess the full extent of the damage to the agricultural sector in Sunsari.
